Lake Merritt Station Domination
BART's 50th anniversary celebrations included a month long "domination" of Lake Merritt Station - where every advertising space in the station was completely taken over by BART. We used the opportunity to transform the station into a BART museum featuring newly digitized vintage photography, maps, and more.
I both curated the content and designed all material used in this station takeover, including the platform level "BART through time" showcase and the mezzanine level posters and decorations as part of BART's Creative Services team.
This project was a key component of the 50th Anniversary Celebration hosted at Lake Merritt station, which won First Place in the "Best Marketing & Communications Educational Initiative - Special Event" category at APTA's 2023 AdWheel Awards.
50th Anniversary Celebration
The most notable event during the year-long anniversary was the AdWheel-winning full-day block party in the plaza above Lake Merritt Station.
I served a vital role in planning for the event from its very early stages and was instrumental in getting several exhibits, including a photo booth made from a BART train cab on display.
As a model railroad fan, I combined my passion and my work to develop an HO scale BART model train with Rapido Trains, Inc., who joined the event to show concepts and designs for the future model, finding enough interest in the project to begin moving forward into production phases by the end of the day.
50 Years of BART Systemwide
50th Anniversary content was also deployed throughout the BART system.
I adapted content from BART's archives and from the Lake Merritt station display for standalone use on trains and in stations, including for downtown San Francisco's digital display arrays.
BART Arcade
In the early 1970s, BART platforms in San Francisco hosted early arcade games in partnership with a nascent Atari. As part of the 50th Anniversary, we brought back games to Powell St Station with a systemwide digital ad campaign to promote the event. I created a variety of retro arcade themed graphics and animations for banners, digital ads, and video.
